Former WWF environmental public relations specialist joins Leicester agency

21st August 2007

Leicester-based communications agency Rock Kitchen Harris, just got greener with the appointment of former World Wildlife Fund environmental public relations specialist, Mark Mclachlan.

Mark joins the RKH team as a PR Account Manager following a successful stint as Regional Media Officer for WWF, one of the world's leading environmental and conservation organisations. Working within WWF's English Regions' Team, Mark played a major role in communicating WWF's environmental message, as he helped familiarise the public and policy makers with terms such as carbon footprint and carbon neutral long before it became trendy to do so.

With three years experience working with WWF and time spent on the 'other side of the fence ' as a news reporter, including a remit to cover environmental stories at the Scarborough Evening News, he brings a wealth of news and public relations experience to RKH's already highly experienced and successful PR team.

Mark, who took a leading role in WWF's 'Chemicals and Health' campaign and 'Footprint' policy initiative, said:

“It's marvellous to have the opportunity to work with a well established agency such as Rock Kitchen Harris and especially as it has a terrific commitment to the environment, both in terms of its client base and its own ethical business practices.

“The environmental transition has already been quite seamless. Since joining RKH, I've started working with the Mark Group, a leading UK company in the fight to reduce UK carbon emissions and reduce national carbon footprint levels. It's fantastic to be working with these kind of businesses as clients, enabling me to continue spreading the green message and ensuring the environment is always high on the media's agenda.”

RKH's environmental credentials continue to be reinforced with the creation of their own in-house 'green group', tasked with reducing the company's carbon footprint and developing and implementing environmentally friendly business measures.
These include incorporating a strategic green plan into the company's overall business plan to look at best environmental practice in all aspects of RKH's corporate activity and a number of practical measures such as the use of energy efficient lightbulbs, ensuring all electrical equipment is switched off, and a commitment to constant recycling.

RKH staff and a large number of their clients also recently enjoyed a private screening of former US presidential candidate Al Gore's Oscar winning documentary film, An Inconvenient Truth, at Leicester's Phoenix Arts Centre. RKH Director John Harris was joined by staff and clients including MARK Group, George Wimpey Homes, De Montfort University and Vulcan to the Sky, to watch the movie which has been billed as one of the most important and significant films of our time.
