Hair raising £1,000 from RKH

10th December 2007

Staff at Leicester Communications Agency Rock Kitchen Harris put the blue rinse brigade to shame recently when they completed a month-long ‘moustache challenge’ charity event on Friday, raising £1,000 for Leicester’s Rainbows Hospice.

After kicking off the hairy horror show in early November the participants have sported a number of facial guises in all shapes and colours. First there was a facial follicle amnesty involving all competitors reporting to the starting line with a final shave before the big ‘tache-off swung into action. Four weeks later, the 16 male members of staff came forward sporting an eclectic mix of moustaches. Hirsute inspiration came from Mexican bandit style droopy ‘taches, Thomas Magnum- inspired bushy soup strainers and Gomez Adams pencil moustaches. Finally, the rainbows theme inspired some fluorescent pink and yellow creations in time for judgement day.
The competition was judged by Rainbows’ representative David French who picked Account Manager Rick Bywater as his winner, adding: “His moustache was the only one which wouldn’t have offended his mother!”

The challenge culminated in an agency Christmas party in Hamburg this weekend when staff modelled their moustaches outside famous city landmarks.

John Harris, RKH Director said: “I’ve never seen so many moustachioed men at once – there has certainly been some hair-raising sights over the last four weeks! All the effort was definitely worth it to be able to give £1000 to the Rainbows Appeal. It’s a really worthwhile local charity that is very close to the heart of the agency.”
