Vulcan returns to the sky
In August 2006 the Vulcan to the Sky project was in serious trouble. If £1.2 million could not be found within three weeks the whole thing was off, the dream was over and the world would have to give up on seeing an Avro Vulcan bomber fly again.
In its darkest hour the project recognised that if people were going to donate money they had to know why they should and exactly how to, so Rock Kitchen Harris was tasked with raising public awareness and interest in order to generate the essential funds.
Once the first monumental task was achieved, RKH was retained to keep interest levels high and the money coming in. Over a year later, on October 18th, XH558 left the ground, and her doubters, behind. It was a fantastic day for everyone connected to the iconic bomber and, thanks to RKH, the media was on hand to see and broadcast the moment to the nation. Over 120 film crews, journalists and photographers witnessed the culmination of 14 years hard work, and quickly fed images and copy to a huge audience both at home and abroad.
